Be a man

Quote 1: Lady Macbeth:  “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would Be so much more the man” (act 1, scene 7, lines 56-58).


Context: This quote is about Lady Macbeth talking to Macbeth about being what she thinks is a true man and wants Macbeth to be a true man.  She wants him to take action an show her that he is a true man


Interpretation and explanation:  Lady Macbeth said this because Macbeth was scared of the consequences that could come from the murdering crime. Lady Macbeth wants Macbeth to see her manliness and find his own manliness from her.


Quote 2: 
Lady Macbeth
unsex me here,
and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full,
of dirtest cruelty.  Make thick my blood.
Stop up th' access and passage to remorse,
(Act 1, scene 5, line 48-51)


Context: Lady Macbeth is saying that she wants to be turned into a man and be filled up with cruelt so she can do as she pleases.


Interpretation: Shakespeare is telling us that men are filled with evil and will not feel guilty for anything bad they do.  Lady Macbeth wants to be turned into a man because she feels that if she is turned into a man that she can kill the king and not feel guilty or bad about it.


Quote 3: Macbeth: Bring it after me. I will not be afraid of death and bane, Till Birnarn Forest come to Dunsinane. (Act 5, scene 3, lines 72-74)


Context: Macbeth tells one of him men to get him his armor and to go with him.  He also says that he will not be afraid to die  but that he'd rather focus on the task at hand.


Interpretation: In the quote, Shakespeare is telling us that no matter what the task is, even if death is in the question that some men will continue on their path to get the task finished.  It is showing that men never give up ad are determined to finish their conquest even if their are dangerous consequences.


Quote 4: Macbeth: I'll fight till my bones my flesh be hacked. ( Act 5, scene 3, lines 38-39)


Context: Macbeth is saying that he will fight till his body cannot no more, or until too many bones are broken and his flesh is ripped so much that he bleeds to death.


Interpretation: This shows his manliness because he will not run from a fight and if he does get into a fight that he will keep fighting till he is dead.


Quote 5: Macbeth: Prithee, peace. I dare do all that may become a man. Who dares do more is none.  ( Act 1, scene 7, lines 50-53)


Context: Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that killing Duncan is too much for him to handle and that killing the king is not worth it to become king.


Interpretation: Macbeth feels that a man that is willing to murder someone to gain their rank is pitiful and does not care that Lady Macbeth does not agree with him.

Odyssey Theme

There are many reoccuring themes that take place in The Odyssey.  One of the reoccuring themes is if you get sidetracked from your mission get back on track and trust in the gods. " I know you won't be driven off your course, nothing can hold you back"(P.286 L 5-6) After Odysseus's many problems he sets sail for where has been trying to go for so long, Ithaca now stronger than ever.

After Odysseus's long journey to return back to Ithaca he finally has and now needs to deal with the suitors that have taken over his kindom with the help from the gods. " First i will transform you-no one must know you." (p.299 L. 454) He gets help from the gods by tranforming him to and old man to take his kingdom back.

Odysseus also has to go through difficult problemcs cause by the gods. "I drifted for 9 days. On the 10, at night, the gods cast me up on Ogygia, Calypso's island, home of the dangerous nymph with glossy braids." ( P.285 L. 484-488) The gods made him go through alot to make him even stronger person to get back to his kingdom.

Belly of The Whale- Michael left when he was younger because his mother was a crack cocain addict and his dad went to jail. He lived in foster care and had periods of omelessness.

Gay Marriage

My opinion on gay marriage is that it should be legal evrywhere. One reason why i believe that it should be legal is that there the same people as everyone else, why shouldn't they have the opportunity to be married.  Gay marriage is legal in states such as Connecticut, Iowa, and other states. Those states have realized what it means to be equal with everyone.

Another reason why i believe gay marriage should be legal is because it would only help societies. Gay marriage pickets are pretty common in most states that dont have it, they want the government to make it legal in that state.  It would make all of the gays feel accepted.

One last reason why i think gay marriage should be legal is because why should gays be punished by not being able to make themselves a married couple. This is really no different from blacks being discriminated on for being black.  My point is that gays should have the same privileges that everyone else has.

Randy Moss

I believe the trade that the vikings have just made is a great trade. We need another dominate reciever to be a threat to the defence and a target for Favre. The addition of Moss to a strungling offence i believe is a great idea and will help our offence produce points.  Since Favre has been with the packers he has been requesting to be paired up with moss.  Favre likes moss's style of catching the ball so i believe he will proudce alot of offence and make chemistry.  Starting 1-2 was not the plan the vikings had and now they feel a sence of urgency and thats another reason why this deal was made.  The vikings have produced very little offence this year comnpared to last year and is in diar need of a reciever threat.  This trade was very quick and sudden and thats what the vikings wanted considering there playing the Jets next week, and the Patriots and Jets are rivals so who better to start against them than Favre to Moss.  The vikings were in need of a reciever to gain chemistry with Frave to produce points and they might have found a replacement for Rice, Rice cominbg off a pro bowl year is now hurt and the vikings have found the man to take his spot.

Odysseus & Telemachus

I believe that Odysseus is a hero based on the heros journey. Odysseus had a very long hard road that he traveled to come back to his kingdom to find the suitors had taken over.  Odysseus did something about the suitors living on his land, he took it into his own hands to deal with it.  Odysseus is a hero because of his actions.  When odysseus came home he took matters into his own hands and killed the suitors that took over his land.  To be a hero you need to be brave and take action when action is needed to be taken and that is what odysseus did. 

 

 

Telemachus

Based on the elements of a heros journey Telemachus is not a hero.  Telemachus does not do much to keep the suitors away from his fathers land.  The suitors take over Odysseou's land/ kingdom and Telemachus does hardly anything from stopping them, a real hero would protect something that was his.  Telemachus is a good son but that doesn not mean he is a hero by anymeans.  He gives an attempt to get the suitors away fromt eh kingdom but then gives up.  Men who give up quicly and never come back to the mission do not desrve to be a hero.
